Take a Trip to St. Andrews with Davey & Skylar

Davey and Sky

Looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life? Then a trip to St. Andrews, New Brunswick is just what you need! Our charming seaside town is located on a peninsula in the Bay of Fundy and is best known for sandy beaches, golf courses, and scenic views. There are plenty of activities to keep you busy during your stay, including hiking, biking, fishing, whale watching, and kayaking. We also have a variety of shops and restaurants for you to enjoy. It’s truly the perfect place to relax and enjoy some quality time with family and friends.

If you’ve been contemplating a trip here, our friends Dave and Skylar travelled from Whycocomagh, Nova Scotia to experience and explore some of the best spots in St. Andrews! Follow along as we give you a recap of their vacation with us.

Day 1: Check-in & Settle-in

The Algonquin Resort was Dave and Skylar’s home base for the duration of their 4-day trip and they enjoyed every minute of it! The historic resort offers stunning views of the Bay of Fundy and is complete with an indoor and outdoor pool, spa, fire pits, and premiere golf course. It’s also within walking distance of all the best shops and restaurants on the famous Water Street. Perhaps one of the best parts about the resort is that it’s dog friendly, so Dave and Skylar were able to bring their whole family along!

After checking in and getting settled into the hotel room, they had dinner reservations at the Smokehouse Restaurant in the hotel. To cap off the night, Dave and Sky signed partook in the spooky Algonquin Resort Ghost Tour. This is a must-do activity if you’re staying at the hotel.

Day 2: Indulging & Admiring

Dave and Skylar were up bright and early the next morning and off to Katy’s Cove. It’s the perfect place to watch the sunrise over the Algonquin Resort. Katy’s Cove features a beautiful sandy beach and has a beautiful docking area- a great place to let your dogs run off some steam. Next, it was time to fuel up with some caffeine and homemade treats from Honeybeans Coffee, Tea & Treats, yum!

In the afternoon, Dave and Skylar were especially excited to tour the beautiful Kingsbrae Garden. The award-winning 18-acre public garden is filled with beautiful flowers, trees, and sculptures. It’s the perfect place to take a stroll and admire nature. To top it off, they ordered an exclusive picnic basket for lunch and enjoyed it while admiring the beautiful gardens.

A happy hour at Saint Andrews Brewing Company was the perfect way to begin the evening. Ordering flights of sample sized beers allowed Dave and Skylar to taste a variety of the brewery’s refreshing beers. The owner and brew master, Dan Covey, even took them behind the scenes to can their own beer to take home. What a fun memory!

Finally, the two couldn’t get enough of Kingsbrae Garden and so they went back for dinner and drinks. Every Wednesday Kingsbrae hosts “Pump Night” which includes musical guests, theme nights with featured cocktails from the bar and gastro pub-inspired dishes.

Day 3: Exploring & Fine Dining

Dave and Skylar started off their morning with a stroll on Water Street with something sweet from McGuires Chocolate Company. Despite a few funny looks while eating ice cream for breakfast, they enjoyed it wholeheartedly! Anything goes on vacation, after all. Along the way, they made a stop at the St. Andrews Farmer’s Market which is open every Thursday from 8am-2pm in the Spring and into Fall. It’s a great place to get fresh local produce, baking, and craft goods.

The main event of their day was sport fishing with Island Quest Marine. Dave and Skylar hopped aboard the sea fishing boat and hit the ocean day to practice their casting. They both managed to catch (and release) a few fish, and even saw some seals along the shoreline. This is such a fun and unique experience for vacationers visiting the area.

To top off their final night in St. Andrews, Dave and Skylar had reservations on the waterfront patio at The Chandler Room inside of the Treadwell Inn. This unique restaurant serves delicious inventive cocktails, local brews, and dishes that are perfect for sharing. The dog-friendly waterfront patio is the perfect place to wind down and watch the sunset.

Day 4: Check-out & Adventuring

Despite having to check out of the Algonquin Resort, Dave and Skylar wanted to make a few more stops before leaving. First, they visited Ministers Island, where they were able to walk on the ocean floor which can only be done when the tide is out (make sure you time it right if you stop here). Exploring the historic 500-acre island was such a surreal experience. Another great stop is The Red Herring Pub,  situated on Water Street. This is a popular place for both locals and tourists who are looking for a tasty spot for lunch and dinner. If you want your fill of traditional Maritime pub food, this is the spot for you! Finally, before the long drive home, Dave and Skylar took to Chamcook Mountain for a hike with the dogs. This hike is a forested trail and offers beautiful views of the ocean at the top which you won’t want to miss if you’re in St. Andrews.

Whether you are looking for a relaxing vacation or an action-packed adventure, St. Andrews is the perfect destination for you! There’s plenty to see and do here, from exploring the scenic coastline to visiting the many shops and restaurants on Water Street. So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and come to St. Andrews for a vacation you’ll never forget!
